Christmas Gathering & Annual Meeting: The Piedmont Lace Guild and friends enjoyed a lovely Christmas Gathering on 10 December. The guild presented a special class in jewelry making. Instructors Corinne Stanley and Joyce Humphries taught us how to make a basic crocheted necklace, using ladder and trellis yarn, and all enjoyed coming up with ways to embellish the necklaces with beads and other types of lace. The guild would like to thank Corinne and Joyce for sharing their talent with us.
The class was followed by a delicious Christmas luncheon and a good time was had by all! The annual business meeting began at 2 p.m. The new officers for 2012 were elected. The new president of the guild is Anita Barry. Members of the guild are looking forward to Anita's leadership in the New Year. 2011 outgoing president, Birgitte Tessier, will continue to serve as consulting president. Virginia State Fair: Guild President, Birgitte Tessier, enjoyed the day at the Virginia State Fair, joining lacemakers from the Colonial Lacemakers group in demonstrating bobbin lace-making. The weather was beautiful and the Arts & Crafts building welcomed a lot of visitors. Everyone, including children and a group of young men, were fascinated by the lace pillows. Birgitte set up a small lace display, and the Colonial Lacemakers provided a practice pillow for fair goers to try out lacemaking for themselves. Click here to see photos ....
The lacemakers noted that there were only a few lace entries in this year's fair. Perhaps a challenge for us for next year??
